After being given starter kits, I used a yellow crystal. It's important to match! Here's a first generation one-handed saber.
Then we got our Jedi robes.

Eventually I was bumped to Jedi Knight and made two third-gen sabers shown below. I socketed some crystals into the second saber, the results of which are in the third column. These were considered bad sabers because I used low quality crystals.
I think I was the only Creature Empath Jedi Knight on TC2. Go me!
